Scenic West Coast of Ireland

Monday 21st May 2012 ~ 5 Days – Staying at the Imperial Hotel – Lisdoonvarna – £319

Ireland is world famous for the beauty of its scenery, the creativity of its culture, the success of its racehorses, the taste of Guinness and the warmth and friendliness of its people. This tour to the west coast provides the opportunity to experience all that makes Ireland so popular… in just 5 days, comfortably without rushing. Undiscovered, unspoilt the enchanting West Coast of Ireland provides the perfect place to blow away the cobwebs of everyday life, gentle, rolling hills and green mountains with cracked facades, atmospheric towns and villages and formidable stretches of coastline, this is Ireland’s poetry-inspired scenery at its best. On this tour we visit the impressive Cliffs of Moher, the Cliffs are 214m high at the highest point and range for 8 kilometres over the Atlantic Ocean on the western seaboard of County Clare. O’Brien’s Tower stands proudly on a headland of the majestic Cliffs. From the Cliffs one can see the Aran Islands, Galway Bay, as well as The Twelve Pins, the Maum Turk Mountains in Connemara and Loop Head to the South. The Cliffs of Moher take their name from a ruined promontory fort “Mothar” which was demolished during the Napoleonic wars to make room for a signal tower. We also visit, the Burren, it lies to the south of Galway in County Clare. The name Burren is from the Irish – bhoireann meaning a stony place. Its formation has lain unspoiled since the ice-age and is composed of karstic limestone, the largest area of such in Western Europe.
